Dome Hall, Clausthal University of Technology
The traditional dome hall of Clausthal University of Technology is the heart of the Aula Academica and looks back on almost 100 years of existence. Opened in 1927, the hall impresses with its artistic architecture: 16 columns converge in a star shape at the top of the dome, with a ceiling height of around 14 metres. Although this special design creates an impressive atmosphere, the height and numerous reflective surfaces pose a major challenge for the acoustics.
In order to achieve excellent speech intelligibility, the hall was equipped with Pan Beam systems. Thanks to sophisticated beam steering technology, the sound can be directed specifically at the audience instead of spreading uncontrollably throughout the room. This significantly reduces disruptive reflections and ensures that the sound remains clear and precise even in acoustically challenging situations. Thanks to the narrow, filigree design of the line array speakers – matching the wall colour in light grey – the loudspeakers also blend harmoniously and unobtrusively into the architecture.
The sound system proves its flexibility at a wide variety of events: from graduation ceremonies, conferences and congresses to the annual state final of ‘Jugend forscht’ (Youth Researches) and concerts and choir performances. The system offers the right sound solution for every scenario, making the Kuppelsaal a special experience not only visually but also acoustically.
